SPECIFIC
Personal Goal:
I will put together 1 30-minute sermon from each Gospel by Feb 20.
Ministry Goal:
By Feb 1st, I will have communicated with my Children’s Department about our 2026 VBS.
MEASURABLE
Personal Goal:
I will have my mentor keep me accountable throughout the process.
Ministry Goal:
Meet with the Children’s Ministry Assistant Pastor by January 14th to map out VBS schedules, tasks, and materials.
RELEVANT
Personal Goal:
This will help my sermon preparation skills.
Ministry Goal:
This goal is relevant because this is one of the biggest events we put on all year as a Children’s ministry.
ACHIEVABLE
Personal Goal:
On Thursdays, I will set aside an hour to study and take notes on the passage.
Ministry Goal:
By Jan 5th, I will sit with the Assistant Pastor to go over the prerequisites to planning.
TIME-BASED
Personal Goal:
From Sept 1 to mid-October, I will work on Matthew. From mid-October to Nov 21, I will work on Mark. From January 1 to the 30, I will work on Luke. Then from Feb 1 to 20, I will work on John.
Ministry Goal:
By December 1st, I will have looked at the VBS Theme for 2026. By January 5th, I will have my lessons/teaching planned out.

Reflection
For my competence in Communication, I am submitting 4 outlines from each Gospel that would equate to a 30-minute sermon, which demonstrates my sermon preparation. I learned that I do better with my preaching when I have spent hours in the passage I am studying. I learned that when I write out my thoughts, I tend to remember my transitions and notes better. The second one is our VBS prep work. This demonstrates what it looks like to delegate, communicate clearly, and trust the team to do what they do best. It demonstrates my willingness to release control to see the event be the best it can be.

Reflection
As I developed and demonstrated communication, I learned that people want to help wherever they can. The biggest things that had to come from me were vision, communication, and delegation. People want to know they aren’t just helping but that they can own part of the creation. I saw one girl, who is amazing with the arts and building sets, come alive when I asked her to take care of all the decorations for VBS. It showed me that when I deploy people in their gifting, God will show Himself through them. What I learned in my sermon prep is that spending time in prayer before and after prep is what I need to do. God and I had many sweet moments, and He even worked on me through the sermons I was preparing. I saw myself grow closer to the Lord and develop a deeper love for His word.

Reflection
As a result of the experiences documented by these artifacts, I will continue to develop in communication by one thing I didn't get to do for all the outlines was put together some sort of manuscript. I found that when I write everything out, I remember my sermons much more, even if I don’t get it word for word. The other thing I would do is record each one. I had the resource, but didn’t think I could use it until it was a little too late. The thing I will continue to improve on with VBS is getting more input about how the whole thing should look. When I had part of my team come in and navigate through the event, things went smoother.
